Mint brews a cool, crisp cup, from pure peppermint and spearmint to mint blended with green tea, pu-erh or rooibos.
Pacific Coast Mint blends cool peppermint with sweet spearmint and is caffeine-free. Moroccan Spearmint is pure spearmint, and Chamomile Spearmint softens the mint with chamomile flowers.
For a tea-based mint, try Moroccan Mint green tea or Pu'erh Vanilla Mint. Chocolate Mint Rooibos is a dessert-like, caffeine-free option, and Watermelon Mint Agua is made for iced tea.
Peppermint is bold and cooling, with a strong menthol bite. Spearmint is softer and sweeter, which is why it is used in Moroccan-style mint tea. Blends of the two give a balanced cup.
For pure mint, use 1 to 2 teaspoons per 250 ml cup and water at about 96°C, and steep 4 to 6 minutes. For mint blended with green tea, use 79°C water and steep 2 to 3 minutes to avoid bitterness.
Pure peppermint and spearmint are caffeine-free. Mint blends made with green tea or pu-erh, such as Moroccan Mint, do contain caffeine, so check the base before brewing late in the day.
Brew Moroccan Mint or a mix of green tea and spearmint, then sweeten it while hot. Traditionally it is poured from high above the glass to create a light foam.
