Hand-picked in Shizuoka prefecture, Gyokuro Okumidori is a shade-grown fine green tea with an exquisite flavor profile. The slender, shiny tea leaves have a deep green color, indicating high levels of chlorophyll.
Gyokuro is a specialty tea that is shaded for approximately three weeks before harvest. The tea plants are covered using old traditional methods with special bamboo tents blocking the sun partially. Shading produces tea that is theanine-rich, very aromatic and produces a liquor that is a beautiful shade of green; being shade grown impacts not only the flavor but also its health benefits.
Our fine Gyokuro Okumidori was made through the cross-breeding between the Yabukita (mother) and Shizuoka #16 (father) tea plants in the year 1974. Once steeped, you will appreciate the flavor which is vegetal, uniquely sweet, delicate, and smooth without astringency.
