Green Yerba Mate – Traditional Unroasted Brazilian Mate

Yerba mate (pronounced "yur-ba mah-tay") is Brazil's national beverage! Green Yerba Mate is made from the shade-grown leaves of a South American holly tree, and it packs a powerful dose of caffeine similar to a cup of coffee while offering the wellness benefits of a true tea. It delivers an earthy, pungent and satisfying-as-chocolate drinking experience that has won fans around the world.

Our traditional Green Yerba Mate is the highest-quality, unaltered dry leaf — it has not been flavored or roasted. It's naturally rich in caffeine, minerals and antioxidants, making it an excellent, balanced and healthy brew. Mate has been studied for decades and is valued for containing a wide range of vitamins, minerals and amino acids, which is why it's often called one of the most nourishing drinks in South America. There isn't a more excellent reason to introduce mate into your daily life.

Tasting Notes

  • Flavor: a wonderful, satisfying, rich "green" character
  • Character: earthy and pleasantly pungent
  • Body: full and robust
  • Finish: smooth and lingering, with an almost chocolate-like satisfaction

Why You'll Love It

Green yerba mate provides clean, focused energy that's perfect for busy mornings, long study sessions and pre-workout motivation. Many mate drinkers love that it feels smoother and more balanced than coffee, without the harsh crash associated with sugary energy drinks.

  • Pure, unflavored and unroasted — the traditional way
  • Coffee-like caffeine with a smooth, balanced lift
  • Naturally rich in minerals and antioxidants
  • Brazil's beloved national beverage

How to Enjoy

Enjoy it the traditional South American way in a gourd with a bombilla, topping up with hot water throughout the day, or simply brew it in your favorite mug or teapot. Its pure flavor also makes it a great base for your own creations — add fresh mint, citrus peel or a splash of juice for a refreshing twist, or serve it iced on hot days.

Try Green Yerba Mate yourself and see what all the fuss is about!

Everyone in here talking about PAHs, this is usually for the smoked yerba mate varieties where the smoke drying process can leave PAH residues on the product. This product is from brazil, that almost exclusively uses an air drying process - so likely very little to no PAHs to worry about with this one. I would suggest drilling down with your AIs before posting the first thing up, because often they're wrong.

From GPT Pro: Green yerba mate tea, like its traditional counterpart, has been associated with certain health risks, particularly concerning cancer. However, these risks are primarily linked to specific consumption patterns and environmental factors.

Cancer Risk Factors:

High Consumption Levels: Regularly drinking large quantities of yerba mate (1 to 2 liters daily) over extended periods has been linked to an increased risk of various cancers, including those of the esophagus, mouth, lung, bladder, and stomach.

High Temperature Consumption: Drinking yerba mate at very hot temperatures (above 65°C or 149°F) may increase the risk of esophageal cancer. This is due to potential thermal injury to the esophageal mucosa, which can be exacerbated when combined with other risk factors like tobacco and alcohol use.

Presence of Carcinogenic Contaminants: Yerba mate leaves are often dried using smoke, leading to the presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), such as benzo[a]pyrene, which are known carcinogens. These contaminants may contribute to an increased risk of cancers, especially when consumed in large amounts.

Moderation and Safe Consumption:

Moderate consumption of yerba mate, such as one to two cups per day, is generally considered safe for most individuals. To minimize potential risks, it's advisable to:

Consume yerba mate at moderate temperatures.
Verywell Health

Limit intake to no more than 1 to 2 liters per day.
Mayo Clinic

Avoid combining yerba mate consumption with smoking or excessive alcohol intake.

Choose yerba mate products that are free from additives and contaminants.

Conclusion:

While green yerba mate tea offers various health benefits, it's essential to consume it in moderation and be mindful of preparation methods to mitigate potential health risks. If you have concerns or underlying health conditions, consulting with a healthcare provider is recommended before incorporating yerba mate into your daily routine.
