Huang Cha Yellow Tea – Rare Chinese Yellow Tea

This rare beauty is a truly unique treasure and a must-try for any tea enthusiast! Huang Cha Yellow Tea belongs to one of the rarest tea categories in the world. True yellow tea is grown and produced only in China, and it's rarely found outside of specialty tea shops. Don't be mistaken by the dark color of the leaves — this is authentic yellow tea!

Yellow tea is prepared in a similar way to green tea, but with one important extra step: the leaves are kept damp and allowed to slightly oxidize before drying. This slow, careful process turns both the leaves and the finished brew a warm golden-yellow hue, and it softens the grassy edge of green tea into something rounder, smoother and more mellow.

Tasting Notes

  • Aroma: wonderfully floral — you'll notice the chrysanthemum scent right when you open the bag, with a faint hint of jasmine
  • Flavor: smooth and rich, with a profile similar to a fine oolong
  • Mouthfeel: buttery, silky and satisfying
  • Liquor: bright golden-yellow
  • Finish: soft, floral and lingering

Why You'll Love It

Huang Cha offers the best of several worlds: the freshness of green tea, the smooth, rich body of oolong and a beautiful floral fragrance all its own. It's an exciting discovery for adventurous tea drinkers and a delightful conversation piece to share with friends who think they've tried it all.

  • A rare, authentic yellow tea produced only in China
  • Floral chrysanthemum aroma with a hint of jasmine
  • Oolong-like smoothness and a buttery mouthfeel
  • Gentle, mellow character with no grassy bite

How to Enjoy

Yellow tea has long been treasured in China and was historically presented as a tribute to the imperial court. Steep a cup of this fine luxury tea, take a slow sip and imagine sitting among the Emperor's court during the Qing Dynasty! It's lovely on its own and can be infused several times.

Rare, refined and utterly unique, Huang Cha Yellow Tea is a tea lover's treasure worth discovering.

Yellow has become my favorite tea. It will have several infusions and satisfies my palate. All of the yellow teas offered by Tealyra are excellent and there really isn't one I choose over another.

This tea really surprised me with its unique flavour and aroma. As other reviewers alluded to, it has qualities of greens and oolongs, but is something altogether its own. This is a new favourite and I really enjoy it. Also, this one has one of the best price/quality ratios I've found on Tealyra and I've worked my way through quite a few teas in their catalog. Highly recommend!

My first time drinking yellow tea. I'm an unroasted oolong lover (high mountain oolong especially). This tea can be seen as somewhere in between green tea and oolong tea. It has the same vegetal taste like green tea, but it tastes 'warmer', with more floral notes and almost a bit of milky- not in the way like milky oolong though. Some said that yellow tea tastes like corn soup, and I think that's accurate too. I absolutely enjoy this tea, and I'm looking forward to buying more yellow tea in the future.

This oolong has a great, full-bodied, almost slightly malty flavor. It does remind me (in a good way) of the nice, rich tea you might have at a Chinese restaurant.
